Me: “Hey, throw me that waterbottle, will you?”
Son: “Do you ever stop eating or drinking?”
Who? Me?
Of course I do. Then again, I was entering entering meals into my food log on sparkpeople yesterday, trying to determine approximately where I stand in regards to the intake of certain minerals, etc., for the day.
Day.
As in I ate the following in one day–and this was just the vegetable matter (we won’t mention the Snicker’s blizzard):
1 head of Cauliflower
1 head of Romaine lettuce
1 cup of torn, fresh spinach
1 large butternut squash
1 zucchini
1 cantaloupe
2 pounds of cherries
2 pounds of green beans
1 pound snap peas in pods
3 tomatoes
2 mangoes
3 bananas
8 apricots
2 green peppers
1/2 an onion
…
Huh.
Am I going overboard in the summer fresh-food fest?
I blame it on a climate that allows my rather small garden to produce things like 2 pounds of green beans daily, and generous neighbors who let me pick their fruit–after all, if I don’t eat this bounty, who will?
(And why, given that I can consume that much roughage without flinching, did I not produce one child in six who can stomach anything that has not been thoroughly baked, boiled, fried, or shrink wrapped?)

Wow, that does sound like a lot of food all listed out like that. I miss you! You must really be busy these days.

Heavens I wish I could follow your example! Are you vegetarian, as I notice no protein? I would have to eat my cauliflower with white sauce!

No, not a vegetarian–I eat plenty of meat and eggs, etc. I was just surprised, when I was actually recording meals, how much of it was vegetable matter! The best way to eat cauliflower, I found out this week, is steamed, and then sprinkled with the last of the crumbs at the bottom of the really spicy nacho chip bag–which is about all my boys left me!
