Child looking out the kitchen window, before he heads off to the bus stop in the semi-dark of early morning:
Hey Mom, you know what they should make?
What?
Leg coats.
Lathe coats?
LEG coats.
Leg coats? As in: ski pants?
No, like that you could wear every day.
Huh.
While I’m trying to process this idea, he steps fully into view: dressed in a winter coat, socks, shoes, and shorts.
Uh-huh. Yeah, last I checked, they invented this thing called pants…

Hey, give him credit for wearing a coat and shoes! I’ve seen ADULTS, many times, show up in the mountains to play in the snow dressed in shorts, t-shirts, and vans.

That’s my other two sons. Drives me nuts. I swear they have no concept of temperature. Or they have really high metabolisms, I don’t know.

so… did you have him put on pants or go as is?

Heck no! I was actually pretty amazed he had the coat on. When you’re thirteen, you suffer the consequences of your wardrobe choices. As mother, I provide all the necessary elements (okay, and occasionally a few pointed facial expressions and/or comments) but far be it from me to provide the compulsion!

I don’t think I ever had to acquire those skills – chalk it up to a coach for my oldest son and no one else interested in sports – I am still naive!

you know they have these leg warmer things… they are like snow pants but they cover from the knee to ankle… He could wear those with Shorts!
